Entrelac Butterfly Shawl
The shape of this shawl allows is to sit well on the shoulders.
It is also possible to sit without sitting on the shawl and you can then wrap it up and around to cover your lap.
An excellent shawl for someone who is chair bound.
It is even possible to wear this shawl in a car an buckle the seat belt!
And don't forget the fun of wearing a set of wings!

What really sets this shawl off is the use of
variegated yarn.
This handspun was spun from a spotted roving that
randomly placed colors throughout the yarn.
The Entrelac variation used in this shawl combines
increasing the number of stitches
in the rectangles in each row and making alternate
rows of rectangles in reverse Stockinette stitch.
By using alternate rows of reverse Stockinette, the
shawl is completely reversible and either end of the
center can be the top.
Yarn: Sample used 24 ounces of Hand spun 2 ply DK
weight yarn.
Larger and smaller yarns can be used. Finer yarn will
need less ounces.
Gauge: 4 sts to the inch and 5 rows to the inch.
Gauge is not real important for this project.
It is more important to match needle size to
yarn size to make a light flexible fabric.
Since Entrelac creates a bias fabric, this also
effects finished size more than the guage.
Needle Size: American size 10.5 Knitting Needles
or the size needed to match yarn used.
Finished size: The sample shawl measures 23 inches
down the center back,
60 inches at its widest point from wing tip to wing
tip, and 48 inches at its longest point.
A smaller shawl can be created with fewer starting
squares and a
larger on can be created with more starting squares.
